"Lanval" is basically the story of an outcast, and through its plot Marie explores the theme of great love that cannot exist in conjunction with the real world. I find this almost true because we have to many distractions in our world today that make it hard to either find love and/or keep it in tact and within a healthy relationship and environment. So many people today are distracted by nto only technology but by each other. We rely on others opinions to shape our own. Every girl, young or old, when makign a decision will always consult someone else before makign that final step. The way peopel influence us can distract us. Many lies and deceivement come with love. One man or woman may fall for another and lie to their spouse about it. It's no wonder that the lady asks that Lanval keep their love secret: such beauty, known only to two lovers, has no place in the ugly world. In Marie de France's lai, we see that in the end, Lanval decides that love cannot exist in our world and he decides to move to mystical realm in order to preserve their love for each other. Overall, I wish this was realistic where we coild escape to another place where love has no barriers or distractions. This would solve many problems and most likely preserve many more relationships.
